Jayshri & Gautam | Santa Barbara Bluff Elopement

Elopements and intimate ceremonies are some of the coolest wedding celebrations to photograph, in my opinion. They're usually pretty short and sweet, and I get to spend my time capturing the moments that matter most. If any guests attend, I get a chance to get to know everyone involved in the wedding a little better (which leads to better photos)!

I jumped on board for Jayshri & Gautam's elopement plans just a couple weeks before they tied the knot. We got extra lucky with a gorgeous sunset to end the day, and I'll let you check out the rest ;)

Tara & Justin | One Thousand Steps Beach Session

When Tara & Justin suggested that we use an hour of their wedding-day coverage to shoot portraits in the ocean instead, I OF COURSE said yes. They brought their love of soccer to the beach where we played around for a bit, then hit the water.

Kristina & Brian | Santa Barbara Historical Museum Wedding

Kristina & Brian had one of the most colorful weddings I've photographed. The Santa Barbara Historical Museum makes for a timeless backdrop with its succulent gardens and Spanish architecture. Gallup & Stribling did an amazing job with the floral design, leaving bright bursts of color in every corner of the venue. The addition of succulents to the floral pieces (including Brian's boutonnière) tied everything together in a seamless and stunning way.

Mindy & Jeb | Santa Barbara + Montecito Engagement Session

Mindy & Jeb are probably two of the nicest people I've met. There's just something warm about being in their presence and you get the feeling that their lives together are intertwined with love and compassion. They were so incredibly patient while we postponed our shoot time and time again due to the torrential (yet much-needed) rains we've been getting here in California this year.

We were on the fence about postponing once more the week leading up to the shoot, but decided to just go for it -- and I'm so glad we did. The clouds cleared up long enough for the sun to make a few appearances throughout the afternoon, and boy did we take advantage of it. We were meeting that afternoon anyway to scout the venues for Mindy & Jeb's wedding later this year, and used every opportunity we found to shoot while driving around downtown Santa Barbara and the foothills in Montecito.

Katie & Xavi | San Francisco Engagement Session

When I found out Katie & Xavi lived in the Bay Area and wanted to schedule engagement photos, I immediately started thinking about all the beautiful locations in between us: Big Sur, Yosemite, San Francisco city itself... the possibilities are pretty endless, and traveling for shoots always feels like an extra exciting creative outlet for me since I love to explore and adventure. Santa Barbara will always be one of my favorite places to shoot, but it sure feels good to break out of that box a little more and more every year.

People often ask me for tips and advice for how to prepare for our shoot. What should I wear? What do I need to do with my hands? So, should I be looking at you right now, or...?

Honestly? My #1 piece of advice: pour yourself a drink first.

We took it one step further and not only had lunch and drinks at the delicious Presidio Social Club before shooting, but brought the party to the beach as well. Anyone who knows me at all will vouch that my heart can be easily won over with a stellar mac & cheese recipe, and Presidio Social Club delivered (bread crumbs and all). With an extra bottle of champagne reserved for the shoot, we headed to Baker Beach for the sunset and the breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
