When Andrew reached out to ask me to photograph his proposal to his girlfriend Erin months weeks in advance, I knew he was planning something special. One of the biggest challenges of photographing a couple's proposal can be figuring out where to be and when, so you remain hidden without missing a moment. This afternoon's shoot turned out to be easier than usual... since Bacara Resort was already setting up for a wedding ceremony on the cliffs, I could blend in with the other wedding staff. Everything came together perfectly for a romantic moment on the bluffs. After Erin said yes, Andrew surprised her with a few close family members waiting to celebrate their engagement.
This morning, I woke up in Cozumel, Mexico and by tomorrow morning I will be back home in Santa Barbara. I find travel to be addicting and so as this trip ends, I'm throwing it back to my adventure to Lake Tahoe for my quarter-century birthday last October.
I woke before the sun and shivered my way to Tahoe Sailing Charters in Tahoe City, where Tyler & Anelise Salvo had invited me to join them with their son on the sailboat at sunrise. This early in the morning, the lake was still and glassy. Lifting the sails in these calm conditions was cause for concern for the harbour master, who sped out in the cold to make sure we weren't stranded. I often find myself in these funny situations when trying to explain bizarre behavior for the purpose of rad photos.
By some miracle, Alyson and Matt managed to introduce me to the least crowded beach I have ever seen in the Los Angeles area. I was expecting a crazy busy scene like Venice Beach or Santa Monica pier, but I arrived to a relaxed oasis neighboring LAX. Alyson and Matt have some special memories around Playa del Rey, and cruised their bikes down the beach bicycling path, which let us capture some fun photos that really captured their personalities and relationship together.
Caitlin & Brad's intimate wedding day was one of the most relaxed wedding days I've had the pleasure of capturing. Although they had technically already signed their papers and made it official prior to the ceremony, Caitlin & Brad still wanted to celebrate the day their closest friends and family. Keeping things small and simple allowed them to enjoy the parts of their wedding they were most excited for, and my favorite part was, of course, all the extra time I had to spend with just the bride and groom exploring various parts of Santa Barbara for portraits. Now go check out some of the dreamy little spots we found in our little town! :)
Elopements and intimate ceremonies are some of the coolest wedding celebrations to photograph, in my opinion. They're usually pretty short and sweet, and I get to spend my time capturing the moments that matter most. If any guests attend, I get a chance to get to know everyone involved in the wedding a little better (which leads to better photos)!
I jumped on board for Jayshri & Gautam's elopement plans just a couple weeks before they tied the knot. We got extra lucky with a gorgeous sunset to end the day, and I'll let you check out the rest ;)
